Rating Summary
Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs. This is an action-horror game in which players assume the role of a man attempting to rescue his girlfriend and unborn child from supernatural forces. From a first-person perspective, players traverse the real world and a demonic dimension, interact with characters, solve puzzles, and engage in combat against enemies (e.g., cultists, demonic creatures). Players use knives, machetes, baseball bats, pistols, and magic (e.g., telekinesis, summoning) to kill enemies. Combat is highlighted by impact sounds, cries of pain, and large blood-splatter effects. During the course of the game, players can witness instances of torture: players' character impaled by knives/nails while strapped to a chair; a human-like character restrained on a table —torture sequences (and aftermath) may depict characters partially nude or with exposed genitalia. Cutscenes depict additional instances of intense violence and/or blood and gore: a woman's skin pulled apart and flayed by chains; a character's intestines exposed as her body gets torn apart. The game contains some sexual material: a couple engaging in sexual intercourse while partially nude (e.g., exposed breasts and buttocks, no genitalia); a sex club level depicting latex-clad figures in various scenes (e.g., restrained, writhing around in groups)—players are able to use a paddle to spank a female character. In one area, players' character can consume pills and inject drugs from a first-person perspective; a cutscene also depicts a character using heroin. The word “f**k” appears in the game.
