Rating Summary
Yakuza 0 Director's Cut is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood, Intense Violence, Sexual Content, Strong Language, and Use of Alcohol. Also includes Users Interact. This is an open-world action game in which players assume the roles of Japanese gangsters involved in the Yakuza underworld during the 1980s. Players explore districts in Tokyo and Osaka and engage in missions to battle thugs and rival gang members. Players engage in fistfights/melee combat using punches, kicks, and special attacks (e.g., neck breaking, slamming heads into walls) to defeat enemies. Players can also pick up various items/weapons (e.g., bicycles, trashcans, signs) to attack enemies. Battles are frenetic and accompanied by impact sounds, cries of pain, and blood-splatter effects. Cutscenes depict more intense acts of violence: characters repeatedly shot; a bound man tortured with a sledgehammer; a character impaled by spikes. The game contains some sexual content: men groping women's breasts in a night club; a man guiding a woman's hand over his crotch; players visiting parlors where they watch video clips of women posing in revealing outfits (e.g., swimsuits); players flirting with women over the phone while close-up images of a bikini-clad woman are shown in the background. During the course of the game, players' character can order and drink whiskey at a bar—a status icon indicates drunkenness. Some sequences allow players' character to play darts after consuming alcohol—the screen blurs and distorts as players try to throw darts from a first-person view. The words “f**k,” “sh*t,” and “c*ck” appear in the dialogue.
