Rating Summary
METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS - Master Collection Version is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood, Crude Humor, Strong Language, Suggestive Themes, and Violence. Also includes In-Game Purchases. This is a stealth action game in which players assume the role of a soldier on a mission to stop a paramilitary group in a war-torn country. From a third-person perspective, players sneak through different areas while incapacitating/killing enemy soldiers to complete mission objectives. Players use pistols, machine guns, rocket launchers, and explosives to kill soldiers and destroy drones. Players also use hand-to-hand close-quartered combat to incapacitate enemies. Firefights are fast-paced, highlighted by realistic gunfire, large explosions, and blood-splatter effects. Players have the ability to shoot and kill civilians in the battlefield, though these actions are not encouraged. Cutscenes depict additional acts of violence: a character impaling himself; a man placing a pistol in his mouth (gunshot heard off-screen). The game contains some suggestive material: pinup posters of women in bikinis; Playboy magazines that can be placed on the ground to distract soldiers (no nudity depicted); cutscenes with camera angles that focus on characters' buttocks and partially exposed breasts; characters' breasts jiggling. The game contains some bathroom humor: a character caught with his pants down (partially exposed buttocks) while defecating inside a barrel (not depicted); the prolonged scene is accompanied by flatulence sounds. The word “f**k” is heard in the game.
