Rating Summary
This is a strategy game in which players assume the role of clan lords and nobles during the Onin War period of feudal Japan. From a top-down perspective, players manage provinces by constructing buildings, collecting taxes, and building armies to attack other empires (and defend their own). Battles are represented by small characters that briefly spar on an atlas-like map; casualties are listed when the conflict is over. Rival figures can also be assassinated, which may negatively affect players' honor level; when it drops to zero, their character is urged to commit Seppuku (ritual suicide). During the course of the game, some suggestive material is described via on-screen text (e.g., “I've been sneaking out at night to . . . spend time with my favorite geisha,” “[A] courtier claims to have had an affair with me,” and “A furious wife has dragged her unfaithful husband before me and insists I punish him.”). Some characters possess a “drunken” personality trait, and sake is mentioned occasionally: “I'm well aware that my sake habits aren't the best but . . . I don't care.” The words “damn,” “a*s,” and “bastard” appear in the dialogue.
