Rating Summary
Gears of War: E-Day is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, and Strong Language. Also includes Users Interact and In-Game Purchases. This is a third-person shooter in which players assume the role of an elite soldier fighting to stop an alien threat. Players traverse through an invaded city, attempt to save civilians, and engage in combat against alien enemies (e.g., locusts, drones, berserkers). Players use pistol, assault rifles, grenades, and melee attacks to kill enemies; combat is frenetic at times, highlighted by realistic gunfire, cries of pain, and large blood-splatter effects. Some weapons allow players to dismember/decapitate enemies, resulting in strewn body parts and/or pools of blood. Players are able to perform finishing moves on enemies, including slicing enemies with a chainsaw; players can shoot corpses (i.e., post-mortem damage), resulting in additional blood-splatter and gore effects. Cutscenes also depict instances of intense violence: a soldier's head bitten off by a large creature; hot liquid poured on a human soldier, melting his body; a soldier's throat ripped out. The word “f**k” appears in the game.
