FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood and Violence. This is a survival horror game in which players assume the roles of twin sisters attempting to escape an abandoned village haunted by vengeful spirits. From a third-person perspective, players explore various locations in the village while searching for clues/tools and solving puzzles. Along the way, players can encounter ghosts that startle (e.g., jump scares), attack, and/or kill players' characters. Players can defend themselves with an old camera (Camera Obscura), capturing images of ghosts that can make them disappear/dissipate. Some sequences reveal the violent circumstances leading to the creation of the ghosts: a woman choked by a character; a man hanging himself; a woman falling to her death. One cutscene depicts a close-up view of a mutilated corpse amid a room full of bloody corpses. Several environments depict large blood stains.
