Rating Summary
The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon is rated T for Teen by the ESRB with Fantasy Violence, Language, Sexual Themes, and Simulated Gambling. This is a role-playing game in which players follow several heroes attempting to stop the prophesized end of their continent. From a third-person perspective, players explore towns and surrounding environments, interact with characters, and engage in combat against human and fantastical enemies (e.g., soldiers, dragons, golems, plant creatures). Players use swords, pistols, whips, and magic spells to defeat enemies in both turn-based and real-time combat. Battles are accompanied by impact sounds, colorful light effects, and numerical values indicating damage. Cutscenes depict further instances of violence: a character holding a knife to their throat; a character pointing a gun at and threatening a character. The game contains some suggestive/sexual material: a strip club with women in lingerie pole-dancing; dialogue such as "...I haven't seen strippers in ages, man”; “[A]s a girl…Being subjected to all sorts of naughty things…"; “It's even the perfect wingman in bed, if y'know what I mean”; “Keep your weirdo kinks to yourself.”); a fantasy creature (“The Seductive Empress”) with exposed breasts and pelvic area (though with no discernible details). During the course of the game, players' character can visit a casino and wager tokens on hands of poker and blackjack. The words “sh*t” and “a*shole” appear in the game.
