Rating Summary
Yakuza Kiwami is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood, Intense Violence, Partial Nudity, Sexual Themes, Strong Language, and Use of Alcohol. This is an open-world action game in which players assume the role of a Japanese gangster (Kiryu) searching for answers after being released from prison. As players explore parts of Tokyo, they engage in missions that involve gang rivalries and fights with thugs. Characters engage in melee fights/fistfights that involve weapons and dramatic finishing moves (e.g., bashing heads into walls, shoving nails into enemies' faces, slamming heads with car doors). Players use pistols, machine guns, and grenades to battle enemies; combat is highlighted by gunfire, screams of pain, and large blood-splatter effects. Some cutscenes depict intense acts of violence: a bound man tortured with razor blades and spikes; a gangster's fingers sliced by a boss; a character shot in the face. Some missions allow players to become more intimate with female characters; as relationships escalate, players earn video clips of real women posing in revealing outfits (e.g., lingerie; swimsuits; partially nude in bathtubs, with soap bubbles barely covering characters' nipples/genitalia). During the course of the game, players can order and drink whiskey at bars/restaurants—a status icon indicates drunkenness; consuming alcohol can provide minor combat bonuses. The word “f**k” appears in the game.
