Rating Summary
Gothic 3 Classic is rated T for Teen by the ESRB with Blood and Gore, Language, Mild Suggestive Themes, Use of Drugs, and Violence. This is a role-playing game in which players assume the role of a new hero in a fantasy kingdom. From a third-person perspective, players travel through a fantasy world, interact with characters, complete quests, and engage in melee-style combat against human soldiers and creatures. Players use swords and bows to defeat various fantasy enemies (e.g., orcs, goblins, skeletons). Battles are highlighted by impact sounds and cries of pain. Small blood effects occur during combat and appear in the environment; one still image depicts a severed orc's head. One brief sequence depicts players' character purchasing female characters from a merchant, with accompanying dialogue: “Oh, I see you have excellent taste, young man. She's good for many a memorable night.” Some female characters are designed with revealing outfits (e.g., moderate cleavage). Drugs are referenced in the dialogue (e.g., “Ever since Raul started growing that weed, he's been permanently stoned”); players' character can also consume/smoke a fictional drug resembling a marijuana joint. The words “sh*t” and “a*shole” appear in the game.
