Rating Summary
Alone in the Dark is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, and Language. This is a survival-horror game in which players assume the roles of a woman and a private investigator searching for a missing relative. From a third-person perspective, players explore a manor residence, interact with characters, and battle mutated creatures. Players use pistols, shotguns, machine guns, and melee-style attacks to kill enemies. Combat is highlighted by realistic gunfire, impact sounds, and blood-splatter effects; shooting sometimes results in enemies bursting into pieces and/or being dismembered or decapitated. Cutscenes also depict instances of violence/blood: a character stabbed through the eye; a character shooting themselves in the head offscreen; a child being hanged in a ritual; a character impaled; a character torn in half. The word “sh*t” appears in the game.
