This is a sports game in which players assume the roles of Mario-universe characters playing fast-paced soccer-like games. As players try to score goals, they use characters' special strikes/moves to slow/overwhelm opponents, often resulting in explosions. Special moves are somewhat over-the-top (e.g., fireballs, bursts of electricity, over-sized bombs), highlighted by slow-motion effects, close-up camera angles, screen-shaking, and cries of pain. One character is briefly depicted eating garlic before belching out a green cloud.
