This is a role-playing game in which players assume the role of a nobleman (De Sardet) caught between warring factions on a mystical island. Players explore 17th century-era inspired environments, interact with characters, complete quests, and battle soldiers and creatures (e.g., wild beasts, pagan monsters) in melee-style combat. Players use swords, axes, and flintlock pistols to kill enemies; combat is frenetic, accompanied by realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and blood-splatter effects. Some areas depict blood stains on the ground and/or corpses lying in pools of blood. Cutscenes depict more intense acts of violence: a man shooting himself in the head at close range; a man impaled through the eye with a thrown knife. The game references suggestive material in the dialogue (e.g., “We could ask at the brothel if it belongs to a prostitute”; “How can these so-called religious men dare abuse these young people?”); in one sequence, players can initiate a cutscene in which a woman straddles and kisses a man on a bed—no sexual acts are depicted, as the scene fades to black. A handful of female creatures are depicted topless. The word “sh*t” is heard in the game.
