Rating Summary
The Town of Light is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood, Intense Violence, Language, Nudity, and Strong Sexual Content. This is an adventure game in which players assume the role of Renee, a former patient of an asylum who relives her experiences in the abandoned institution. From a first-person perspective, players explore the asylum grounds and trigger various black-and-white memories. Some memories depict acts of violence and blood: a character stabbed with scissors; a character given electroshock treatment; blood on a character's wound; a woman receiving a lobotomy (a medical instrument is placed through the space between a patient's eyeball and eyelid, then hammered in). A handful of memories include brief, stylized depictions of nudity and sexual activity (e.g., nude patients in a shower tended to by nurses; two nude women caressing each other in an adjacent shower room). Other memories can depict still-image illustrations that allude to sexual assault (a man pushing behind a woman on a desk—both fully clothed; a woman crying in a bathtub as a man is shown behind her—sexual activity is not depicted; dialogue that states, "He laughed, panted and slobbered all over me, it hurt when he touched me."). The word “sh*t” is heard in dialogue.
