Rating Summary
Blue Estate is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood, Crude Humor, Drug Reference, Partial Nudity, Sexual Themes, and Violence. This is a first-person shooter, based on the Blue Estate graphic novel, in which players assume the role of two characters involved in gangster/mob-related storylines in Los Angeles. Players use pistols, shotguns, and machine guns to shoot and kill enemy gang members in frenetic combat. Shootouts are accompanied by realistic gunfire, screams of pain, slow-motion and blood-splatter effects. Some areas depict streaks/pools of blood on the ground. During the course of the game, players can enter a night club setting in which women (topless with pasties on their breasts) are seen pole dancing; some posters display topless strippers with sexual names such as “T*ts McGee,” “Lady Gag Gag,” and “Fifi Le Vulva.” One menu screen displays a scantily clad stripper with exposed buttocks. The game's dialogue/text sometimes contains irreverent commentary and/or jokes referencing racial/ethnic stereotypes (e.g., “We're not even Vietnamese, you racist greaseball,” “Can't see these mooks,” and “Goddamn oobatz Sicko pr*ck, wastin' my time.”). A handful of sequences depict instances of bathroom humor: a character emitting flatulence; a man sitting on a toilet with flies buzzing around. The game includes depictions of marijuana plants and references to drugs in dialogue (e.g., “Cause I's Jamaican means I got to be red-stoned alla the time?”).
