Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi

Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood, Strong Language, Suggestive Themes, and Violence. This is an interactive story game (i.e., visual novel) in which players assume the role of a girl who finds herself among samurai and demons in 19th century Japan. Players interact with several characters and sometimes are witness to various acts of violence: characters attacking/killing with swords, spears, and pistols; violence is also described in text (e.g., “A sword pierced the chest of one, straight through the heart” and “I felt steel slice through bone and flesh as it carved through my body”). Characters are sometimes depicted with blood stains on their skin and clothes. Suggestive material occasionally appears in text as well (e.g., “red-light district in Edo where the licensed brothels can be found,” “Didn't think I'd be getting pushed down into bed tonight," and "How is it? On top of me. Does it feel good?”). The words “f**k” and “sh*t” appear in the dialogue.
