Hakuoki: Memories of the Shinsengumi

This is an interactive story game (i.e., visual novel) in which players assume the role of a young girl who finds herself among samurai and demons in 19th century Japan. The game includes brief instances of violence: characters attacking/killing with swords, spears, and pistols; however, most of these attacks occur off-screen and are indicated by flashes and sword-slashing/flesh-rending sounds. Violence is also described in text (e.g., “The soft slip of a blade through flesh; the crack as it struck bone; the silent creep of blood across ground.”). Characters are sometimes depicted with blood stains on their skin and clothes, or dripping from their mouths. Suggestive material sometimes appears in text as well (e.g., “red-light district in Edo where the licensed brothels can be found,” “Didn't think I'd be getting pushed down into bed tonight," and "How is it? On top of me. Does it feel good?”). The words “f**k” and “sh*t” appear in the dialogue.
