Rating Summary
Sword of the Stars 2 – Lords of Winter is rated T for Teen by the ESRB with Fantasy Violence, Mild Blood, Mild Language, and Mild Sexual Themes. This is a strategy game in which players compete for galactic supremacy against various alien races. As players build new colonies, they manage tasks such as technological research, diplomacy, and interplanetary combat. During battle, players can manipulate the camera to zoom in as their fleets assault enemy vessels. Conflicts are accompanied by colorful laser fire and brief explosions; casualties are indicated by on-screen text. One still-frame screen depicts a splash of yellow blood as two creatures attack each other; another screen depicts splotches of red blood in the background. During the course of the game, players can access descriptions of alien species' attributes and behaviors, including several references to their mating habits (e.g., “. . . females and unchanged males will join together to form a bonded social and sexual partnership,” “[H]e has been able to perform as a sexual being from early adolescence,” “Although they find seniors . . . sexually attractive, they tend to remain detached.”). The words “damn,” “hell,” and “b*tch” appear in the dialogue.
