War of the Worlds

This is a side-scrolling platformer game in which players assume the role of a man who must traverse through London to rescue his family during an alien invasion. As players run, jump, and climb through each level, they must avoid hazardous obstacles (e.g., fiery platforms, loose power lines) and alien spacecraft that fire colorful laser beams; when zapped, small human characters cry out amid a brief electrocution effect. The game has a somewhat dark tone, underlined by a narrator who recounts the destruction he experienced during the invasion (e.g., “I could smell burning. I could smell death” and “Jenny's father had died trying to rescue his only daughter.”).
