Rating Summary
The Institute and The Mystery of Meane Manor is rated T for Teen by the ESRB with Mild Blood and Violent References.

This is a seek-and-find adventure game in which players assume the role of Becky Brogan, a high school student who investigates mysteries in her hometown. Players search for specific items among scenes of jumbled objects to uncover clues in each location. During some sequences, Becky finds journal entries that reference the occult, in addition to documents that mention infanticide and suicide (e.g., "In the basement, she smothered Edwin [her child] and then hanged herself."). In other parts of the game, players can obtain patients' files and notes that describe acts of violence: the stabbing of a child during a school yard fight; the intentional burning of people and animals; the attack of a ten-year-old girl who is selling cookies door-to-door; and the disfiguration of a doctor's face by acid. Throughout the game, various items are stained with drips and splatters of blood.
