This is an action-adventure/role-playing game in which players assume the role of a hero (DeathSpank) on a quest to find an item known as "the Artifact." Along the way, players can solve puzzles, complete whimsical quests, interact with townspeople, and battle an assortment of monsters. Players use axes, swords, hammers, and crossbows to hack-and-slash at the "cartoony" enemies (e.g., undead soldiers, dragons, saber-tooth donkeys, and chickens). Splashes of blood appear when enemies are hit, sometimes leaving stains on the ground. During one of the quests, players are required to collect and crush excrement from demons (e.g., "beat the crap out of Demons . . . literally"). The dialogue contains some mild sexual references such as "He says you are a psychotic dominatrix and not in the good way"; "Between the heart palpitations and the unchecked syphilis, it's the least of my worries"; and ". . . mighty codpiece. Was it hard? A little towards the end." Language such as "a*s" and "bastard" can also be heard in dialogue.
