This is a fantasy role-playing game in which players assume the role of a young mercenary (L'Arc) who fights to defend the Meridian Empire from invading monsters. Combat involves turn-based battle with swords and weapons, and the summoning of mythical creatures to execute magic spells and special attacks. Damage is indicated by cascading lights, slashing sounds, and floating hit points; when characters are defeated, they will usually lie on the floor and disappear in a puff or energy spark. In one sequence, a character impales a dragon with a sword, and dialogue includes lines such as "Instead of killing . . . I'll torture them," and "the murderer of my staff." The game also contains suggestive references; for example, "a beautiful woman wearing next to nothing," "Torture? Huh? You're into that kinky stuff, huh?" and "Lord Alf must be crazy for having such a filthy woman as his lover! The dialogue contains a few references to drugs, including the line "I'm going to get high from these special drugs. Do you want to try some with me?" During the course of the game, players can enter a casino and wager virtual money on games of video Blackjack, slots, and poker.
