Dungeon Maker II: The Hidden War is a dungeon crawler adventure game in which players assume the role of the "Dungeon maker" who engages in frequent hand-to-hand battles against a creatures and monsters that populate user-created dungeons. Players enter dungeons and can edit and change their layout to attract different monsters. Numerical values indicate damage inflicted during the frenetic combat; monsters quickly disappear when defeated. Story elements are told through dialogue and still frames images and may include expletives (e.g., "damn" and "hell"), references to alcoholic consumption (e.g., "You're drunk aren't you…I hate to waste anything, so drank them all up *hic*"), and suggestive references (e.g., "She took all of her clothes off and stood naked before the gods").
