American McGee's Grimm: The Fisherman and His Wife is an action game in which players assume the role of Grimm, a dwarf who retells classic fairy tales, making them darker and more violent. Players can introduce filth, death and pestilence into 'cartoony,' fairytale settings, while causing a chain of events that inflicts destruction and mayhem: milk turns into rum; barrels of fish and food turn into rotted piles of bones and carcasses; giant squids get shot by cannonballs; and unsuspecting children get flattened by a giant bell. 'Cartoony' red blood is also depicted in fountains, shooting from a whale's blowhole, and spraying when characters are beaten up. In addition, players can urinate – used as a visual aid to jumping – and 'accidentally' hit other characters or emit flatulence, which is accompanied by noxious gas and sound effects. Mild profanity (e.g., "bitch") can be heard in the dialogue.
