Monster Lab is an action role-playing game in which players collect 'body parts' with which to assemble a monster for battle. Players participate in a series of mini-games (e.g., smashing robots, flicking brains towards enemies, and eliminating insects) to win these parts and modify their monsters for combat. Battles are turn-based and displayed from a two-dimensional side view. Some special attacks include belching and farting, which are accompanied by green gas clouds. During one cutscene, a female scientist is dressed in a provocative outfit and her breasts jiggle as she moves. A mini-game allows players to smash bugs resulting in a yellow splash effect on the ground.
