1. Select "Parental Controls" icon in the Wii U Menu.

 

2. Cycle through the parental controls explanation until you are prompted to "create a four-digit PIN."

 

3. Once a PIN is created, you must select a "Secret Question" in order to retrieve your PIN in the event it is forgotten. In addition to a "Secret Question" you also have the option to register your e-mail address in order to retrieve your PIN.

 

4. Select "Parental Controls Settings" and then "Game Rating" to block or allow access to games based on their ESRB rating. Use L Stick to move the slider that appears on the Wii U GamePad controller screen to select which ratings are "Allowed" and "Not Allowed." Rating Category definitions are displayed on the television and can be scrolled through with the R Stick.

 

5. Once finished select "Confirm," "Back," and "Quit" to exit

After selecting "Parental Controls Settings" you may also adjust:

• Online Interactions in Games - Restrict the exchange of game content and in-game communication over the Internet

 

• Internet Browser - Restrict web browsing

 

• Wii U Shopping Services - Manage the use of credit cards and software purchases in the Nintendo eShop and similar services

 

• Miiverse - Restrict content viewing or posting within Miiverse

 

• Friend Registration - Manage friend connections

 

• Entertainment Excluding Games - Restrict streaming video content as well as software with video playback functions

 

• Data Management - Restrict the transfer or deletion of software and save data

 

• Internet Settings - Prohibit the user from accessing "Internet Settings" in the "System Settings"

 

Other Tips:

• Wii U is also compatible with most Wii^™ software and accessories. Access "Wii Menu Settings" to manage Wii parental controls.

1. From the main Wii Menu, using the cursor and the A Button on the Wii Remote controller, select "Wii Options" followed by "Wii Settings." Click on the blue arrow to the right to reach the "Wii System Settings 2" menu options.

 

2. Choose "Parental Controls" and select "Yes."

 

3. Create a 4-digit PIN and select "OK." You will be prompted to select a secret question to be used if you forget the PIN number. Once done, select "OK."

 

4. Select "Game Settings and PIN." Now you can select the "Highest Game Rating Allowed" on the Wii console. Once selected, press "OK," "Confirm," and "Settings Complete."

You can also use "Parental Control" to:

• Prevent use of "Wii Points" in the "Wii Shop Channel" where games can be purchased

 

• Restrict online user-to-user communication and the exchange of user-generated content

 

• Block use of the "Internet Channel" and/or "News Channel"

Other tips:

• If your child wants to play online with a friend, they must exchange and store each other's Wii number with their Mii name in their respective Address Books. Your own Wii console number can be found in the "Address Book"
